Mela 2023

Newcastle Mela 2023 is a free, family-friendly event that has taken place in Exhibition Park over the Bank Holiday weekend for a number of years.
The main event takes place over two days on Sunday 27 and Bank Holiday Monday 28 August in Exhibition Park, Newcastle from 12pm until 8.15pm.
The much loved annual event gives visitors a truly authentic experience of South Asian culture and is a highlight in the region’s cultural calendar.
Newcastle Mela is based around Pakistani, Bengali, Indian and other South Asian cultures, with ‘Mela’ meaning ‘meeting’ in Sanskrit. This year’s event offers a fantastic opportunity to meet family and friends which attracts visitors from all over the UK.
There will two days of celebration and entertainment in Exhibition Park, with music, dancing, our amazing food stalls and a whole range of free family activities.
Everyone is welcome, from all backgrounds, with communities coming together to celebrate and experience the relaxed atmosphere and everything there is to do and see.
