Urban Green Clean
We need your help to keep our fabulous parks and open spaces free from litter.
During the recent months of lockdown, the City’s parks and allotments stayed open, allowing thousands of people to enjoy the outdoors, benefiting their health and wellbeing.
While our parks remained beautiful, they also struggled at times with additional littering; something that has also been experienced across the country.
We welcome the Great British September Clean, taking place nationally but we need volunteers to help keep our parks litter free beyond September too.
That’s why we’re setting up Urban Green Clean and calling for additional volunteers to help clean up the City’s 33 parks and keep them in excellent condition, safe and accessible for everyone.
We’ve already increased the number of bins and litter collections, but it still isn’t enough to keep up with demand. That’s why we need volunteers to help us make a real difference to protect our environment and wildlife.
The restrictions placed around large gatherings, as a result of social distancing, mean it is challenging for us to organise large scale litter picking events, but we can still help individuals or small groups.
Urban Green Clean is sponsored by the LGA Foundation and volunteers are needed in all parks across the City. Those signing up to help will be issued with litter pickers, masks, gloves, bin bags and hi visibility vests. They will also be given instructions to keep themselves safe. There are no guidelines about how often volunteers should take part, just whenever they can help.
