Urban Green Connect
Are you passionate about encouraging others to engage? Do you love seeing local people getting involved in local issues? Would you like to share your ideas? Then we want to hear from you!
Urban Green Connect aims to bring a greater range of voices and experiences around the table, to support and advise us on how we can most effectively reach out to local communities, and make sure that parks and allotments are used and enjoyed by as many people as possible.
Our Chief Executive James Cross explained the importance of involving local people: “This is an exciting time for Urban Green Newcastle, and we have great plans. But we can’t do this alone, or in isolation. We need to speak to people, hear their views, and understand what will encourage everyone to get involved and share our passion.
“This is so important to us; we have built it into our charitable objectives. Our Trustees will be supported by Urban Green Connect, an advisory group that will help guide us on how best to reach people, in particular those groups and individuals who are rarely heard. We want to truly make a difference – together.”
The new group will comprise up to 15 people, including two Trustees, and will aim to reflect the amazing diversity of the city. One of these Trustees, Gina Tiller described who we are looking for: “Anyone can apply to join our community panel. We are looking for people brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, to help us reach a far wider audience.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from those individuals or groups with whom we currently don’t have regular contact, or who feel that our green spaces offer little for them. We want this to be an inspiring group that excites people and challenges us to think differently and become the visionary, inclusive organisation that we aspire to be.”
The Panel will meet approximately four times a year. While voluntary, participants will receive expenses for travelling to and from meetings as necessary, and any specialist support will be provided. In the current climate we will hold these meetings virtually.
