Speaking to last year’s winners

We spoke to many of last year’s winners about taking part in the event, and why allotments are so important to them. It was inspiring to hear how tending to an allotment can improve people’s physical and mental wellbeing, help make life-long friends, and connect people to their local community.

Best Group Plot/Community Project
Best Shed
Most Wildlife Friendly Plot

How are the awards judged?

Points are awarded by a team of judges based on various criteria; including recycling, maintenance, attractive features, quality of crops etc. Each individual award class is also judged against a set of specific criteria.

You can download and view a copy of the scoring criteria here.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via events@urbangreennewcastle.org.

We can’t wait to receive your entries and visit your sites for judging. Best of luck, and happy sowing, growing, and showing!
