Work is about to get underway to repair and maintain our play parks across our estate. This programme of work will begin next week (8 March 2021) and is expected to take until early May – and will see us invest £200k to complete 160 individual repair tasks across all of our play areas.
Last week was a week of contrasts! We started so saddened by the behaviour of a few people, and ended the week absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity and encouragement shown by so many in response to the devastating fire at Heaton Park last weekend.
All our staff at Urban Green Newcastle are absolutely devastated by the arson attack on the playground in Heaton Park. The incident happened on the night of 13 September; the fire service responded quickly, and the police are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
All playgrounds, games areas (including tennis courts and multi-use games areas) and unfenced play equipment is CLOSED to the public until further notice in line with government guidance.
Specific areas of our parks are being used more than others, particularly play areas and popular attractions like Pets’ Corner in Jesmond Dene. Because of this, we’ve taken the decision to close all playgrounds and Pets’ Corner.
