Friends of Jesmond Dene fund much needed repairs to Pets’ Corner aviary

Pets’ Corner has been a popular attraction in Newcastle for almost 60 years. Thousands of people visit every year to see the animals and learn about how we care for them.

Making sure Pets’ Corner is a safe place for the animals and the people that come to visit is our utmost priority. Because Pets’ Corner is open to the elements, some of the natural materials in our pens can become damaged over time. In our aviary, a combination of softening wood and the inquisitive beaks of some of our birds led to some slight structural damage.

Thanks to the Friends of Jesmond Dene, who raised and donated £2,304, we’ve been able to fix the damage by installing new metal brackets; ensuring the aviary remains a safe place for our birds and an enjoyable place for people to visit. It also means the aviary will remain in Pets’ Corner for many years to come.

We are enormously grateful to the Friends of Jesmond Dene for the kind donation, and we thank them for their continued support. To show our appreciation, we will be installing a plaque on the aviary to recognise the Friends’ donation and the improvement it has made to Pets’ Corner. Keep you eyes peeled for it next time you visit.

Remember, Pets’ Corner is open seven days a week (except bank holidays) from 10:30 – 16:00, so don’t forget to pay the animals a visit on your next trip to Jesmond Dene. Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £2.

If you would like to support the upkeep, maintenance and care of Pets’ Corner and its animals, you can make a donation via our JustGiving page.
