More nature-based workshops and activities at Springbank Pavilion

Thanks to generous funding from Newcastle Hospitals Charity, we’re delighted to announce that our programme of creative workshops and self-led artists’ activities are returning to Springbank Pavilion in Leazes Park from:

  • Wednesday 17 May 2023 until Friday 23 June 2023
  • Wednesday 5 July 2023 until Friday 11 August 2023
  • Wednesday 30 August 2023 until Friday 6 October 2023
(Please note workshops will only take place during these term dates.)

Since it launched in 2022, our pioneering arts and health project with Newcastle Hospitals Charity has helped hundreds of people connect with nature through a series of creative art workshops, as well as artist-led creative activities that can be done anywhere.

Come and join local arts organisations Chilli Arts Studios, Curious Arts and Gem Arts at Springbank Pavilion to take part in some exciting art workshops that give participants the chance to spend time in nature and get creative. Hand-build pots or sculptures out of clay with Chilli Arts Studios, or explore themes of nature, space, community, and wellbeing with Gem Arts and a local visual artist and printmaker.

If you want the freedom to be creative at home, at work, or at the hospital, some of the regions most acclaimed artists have also developed a series of nature-based activities that you can take part in anytime, and anywhere. Make a leaf garland with Lady Kitt, or journey through the sounds of Newcastle’s parks on a special audio tour with David de la Haye. Artist Sofia Barton invites you to celebrate the things you enjoy by creating a nature mandala, or drawing, singing, and taking photos of nature.

We hope these activities inspire you to help those who may have barriers to accessing green spaces in finding new ways to connect with nature. All the workshops and activities are completely free to take part in, but advanced booking is required for the workshops in Springbank Pavilion.

Located in the heart of the city, and right on the doorstep of the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Great North Children’s Hospital – both sites of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust – Springbank Pavilion is a fully accessible building.

Whether you’re NHS Trust staff, a patient, a visitor, or part of our wider communities, we hope you find an activity that you would like to take part in.
