Following a number of new cases the Chief Veterinary Officers for England, Scotland and Wales have agreed to bring in new measures to help protect poultry and captive birds, following a number of cases of avian influenza in both wild and captive birds in the UK.

Urban Green win four Green Flag Awards
In the 2020 awards we have achieved Green Flag Awards for four of our city centre parks. Two of the parks have kept their awards – Jesmond Dene for the 7th consecutive year and Walker Park for the 4th consecutive year – and Exhibition Park and Leazes Park have been recognised for the first time since 2011.
New initiative helps you to Take Ten Minutes in our parks
Take Ten Minutes, a new free-to-use guided meditation service is being trialled in our parks, to encourage people to engage in guided walking meditations to help improve their mental wellbeing.
